Circulation pumps for the coolant system
The circulation pump keeps coolant moving through the engine and heat exchanger. If the pump is leaking, damaged or no longer moving enough coolant, the engine can run too hot.
Here you’ll find circulation pumps for Volvo Penta, Yanmar and other brands. Depending on the engine, the pump may be supplied complete or without parts such as the pulley, gasket or mounting hardware. Check the product photos and description carefully so you know exactly what is included.
A circulation pump is different from a seawater pump. The circulation pump moves coolant through the closed cooling circuit. The seawater pump draws outside water through the intake and sends it through the heat exchanger. If you need a seawater or impeller pump, see our
water pumps.
When should a circulation pump be replaced?
Coolant around the pump, play in the shaft, bearing noise or an engine that runs hotter than normal can point to a worn circulation pump. These symptoms can also have other causes, so check the rest of the
cooling system before replacing parts.
Inspect the drive belt, pulley, hoses and thermostat at the same time. Also check the heat exchanger for dirt or internal blockage. A new pump will not solve an overheating problem if coolant flow is restricted elsewhere.
When replacing the pump, use the correct gasket or sealing ring and refill the system with coolant that meets the manufacturer’s specification. Remove trapped air according to the instructions for your engine.
Check the pump number and connections
Circulation pumps can change between versions of the same engine. Differences may include the housing shape, pulley mounting, hose connections or bolt pattern.
Compare the original part number with the numbers listed on the product page. Also check the complete engine designation and serial number. Do not choose a pump only because it looks similar in a photograph.
If the number on the old pump is no longer readable, send us the engine model, serial number and clear photos of the pump and its connections. We can then help you check which circulation pump you need.
